About West Champaran
West Champaran, with its headquarters at Bettiah, is the largest district in Bihar and has an open border with Nepal. Gandhi began his Champaran satyagraha here, at Bhitiharwa; Lauria Nandangarh has an Ashokan lion pillar and a large ancient stupa mound.
