About Mumbai
Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, grew from seven islands into India’s financial centre. The Fort and Kala Ghoda area has Victorian Gothic and Art Deco buildings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city’s museums include the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. Marine Drive and Girgaum Chowpatty face the sea, boats run from the Gateway of India to the Elephanta Caves, and the Buddhist caves of Kanheri lie inside Sanjay Gandhi National Park in the north of the city.
