About Cherai & Vypeen
Vypeen is the long, narrow island north of Fort Kochi, joined to the mainland by the Goshree bridges. At its northern end, Cherai Beach runs for several kilometres with the sea on one side and backwaters and paddy fields on the other. Nearby are the old Portuguese fort at Pallipuram and the temple and church towns of North Paravur, part of the Muziris heritage area.
Don't miss
- Cherai Beach, with backwaters just behind it
- Pallipuram Fort, built by the Portuguese in the early 1500s
- Chinese fishing nets on the backwater side of the island
- North Paravur and the Muziris heritage sites
